Law and order is always a very important part of society. The society which is most disciplined, yet free, would be one that is most efficient. But, sometimes the countries get too overboard with their law enforcement, which makes it really hard for people to exist freely. These countries introduce the strictest laws, which is extremely weird at times. They sometimes dissolve fundamental rights and more often than not, curb their citizens’ right to free speech. This is because of the idea of a totalitarian or dictatorial regime, where every single aspect and idea of the public is said to be in control of the ruler. This destroys the country.
Here are the top ten countries with the strictest laws:
1. North Korea
This country officially tops the list of weirdest countries ever. Under a cruel and ruthless dictator, the laws of this country are so harsh and ridiculous that it is bound to raise a few eyebrows. Law prohibits intimacy before marriage puts limits on interpersonal relationships, and compels men to have a haircut every 15 days. There is a strict ban on communication with the outside world, with limited internet access for the people.
Most of the Middle-Eastern countries have a strict law code that prevents women from a lot of things. Iran is no different. The women have to wear hijab before coming out of their houses. Also, western music is banned and liquor prohibited.
Syria was actually a pretty beautiful and significant historical place before the wars. Now, the government or whatever is left of it has established Sharia law, which treats women very inferiorly. Extreme conservatism is practised when it comes to girls and women. Also, there is a media blackout in most parts of the country and people have limited influence by it.
A relatively unknown country, Eritrea is on this list because President Isaias Afewerki has established a law that prohibits broadcasting or publishing anything without his permission.
5. Equatorial Guinea
This African country is sorely impoverished and the only thing making things worse is the President controlling every aspect of information and broadcasting, that involves radio and TV.
6. Saudi Arabia
Another country filled with a host of conservative laws! Saudi Arabia doesn’t allow women to drive or wear fancy clothes. Apart from that, there is a staunch revulsion to any other religion. Finally, Saudi Arabia doesn’t allow for maximization of the internet and the rare amounts it is allowed surveillance is strongly enforced.
This is a country that is famous for its political upheavals and scenic beauty. But what it isn’t famous for is its freedom of speech where anyone talking about the government in a bad light is immediately imprisoned.
The world’s biggest economy doesn’t come without the world’s biggest problems. China has several laws that are really weird, but Chinese people have to follow it to the book. One of them is the ban on the internet, which according to the government, is a sure way of encouraging western ideas.
This is kind of shocking since Japan is one of the most peaceful countries out there. But, they have a strict policy against talking about certain things. Also, they have to maintain a consistent work ethic that would make them the most efficient in their field of expertise.
The last country on the list, Singapore is one of those countries that bedazzle us with its cleanliness and beauty. But they have some bizarre laws. One of them is such that you cannot wear anything that is too eye-catchy or something too revealing, and if you do, you would be jailed.
