In today’s consumerist culture, everything is mass produced and we feel very little guilt while throwing away objects after using them once. But given the condition of the planet today, it is high time we start looking at ways to reduce our waste materials.
Below are people who’ve come up with genius ideas to make wealth out of waste materials:
1. Reusing Plastic Bottles
In a brilliant expression of creativity, this guy decided to make good use of a plastic water bottle. His bicycle didn’t have a carrier at the back so he simply flattened the bottle and made a good carrier out of it. While it is best to give up plastic bottle completely if you can if you must buy them, try to not discard them after a single use.
2. A Unique Chair
This old and broken shopping cart would normally have found its way to the dumpster but this person saw that it had potential. If it is sturdy enough to carry all your groceries, it is definitely sturdy enough to make a comfortable chair.
3. Grater Lamp Shades
When your graters become old and blunt, they make for some very nice lampshades. Just hang them around a lamp and you’ll get an interesting and fun display of light for your home.
4. The Perfect Frame
There are only so many times you can rewire a badminton racket. After too many wires have snapped, you can strip the racket bare and it makes a perfect frame for your mirrors. They’ll also look good on your walls.
5. Brighter Torches
A phone’s torch doesn’t really help light up an entire room. It’s good only for very small spaces. Save your Styrofoam cups for blackouts and if you don’t have a good torch, you can just place it upside down over your phone’s torch to light up the entire room.
6. Shopping Bag Holder
Forget having to make multiple trips from the car to get all your shopping bags inside. And forget struggling to carry all the bags at once. A little bit of upcycling and you’ll have a nifty little holder to save you all the trouble.
7. Toilet Paper Rolls
This is something you’ll definitely have more than a few, so make good use of them. You can fold up all your stray wires and keep them together so that you won’t have to go hunting around the house for them later.
8. A Makeshift Bicycle
Probably the most ingenious way to fix-up bicycle tires, this person simply used old sneakers to create a cool bike for himself.
9. Phone Cases As Dishes
If you have an empty iPhone case, save it! As surprising as it may seem, they make for very good butter dishes and you won’t have to add to your trash.
10. Body Armors
Old tires are actually very sturdy and if you’re ever in need of some armour, you needn’t look any further. Just remember to clean them before putting them on your body.
